Remote Measurements in Radioactive Environments for n-TOF Autopsyfor n-TOF Autopsy

Summary

To analyse the post-mortem n-TOF target under radioactive constraints, we deployed remote metrology using a robot-mounted Metrascan. The approach enabled non-contact 3D scanning of the impacted area, extraction of each target for modelling, and reconstruction of the experiment’s beam axis for deformation assessment—without human exposure in the hot area.

Objectives

  • Acquire a complete, traceable 3D scan of the irradiated target assembly.
  • Localise the point of impact and quantify deformation induced by the beam.
  • Reconstruct the beam axis relative to the as-found geometry.
  • Provide data products for physics and engineering post-analysis (meeting scheduled to define result processing and reporting).

Constraints & Risks

  • Radioactivity of the part prohibiting direct access.
  • Need for remote, contact-free measurement with robust referencing.
  • Environmental stability (lighting, line-of-sight, robot reach) and measurement traceability.
